Rite Aid: Paid Nothing for $19.96 Worth of Merchandise!
Now that the office supply stores are no longer running their awesome "back to school" sales, my focus has shifted back to the drug store deals.
I went into Rite Aid with no +UP rewards and ended with none as well. I didn't want to end up with any +UP rewards, so my plan was to "roll" any +UP rewards that were generated into the next transaction and ultimately use them up with the third transaction. Here's what I did:
Transaction #1
Bayer Aspirin 20-36 ct., at $2.99
Coupons used
-$2 off Bayer Advanced Aspirin product, RP 9/11
-$1 off Bayer Advanced Aspirin, (Rite Aid coupon) printable
Subtotal was -$.01 (cashier had to adjust down the Rite Aid store coupon to $.99 to make the subtotal zero)
Out of pocket = Zero + tax
+UP generated
$1 +UP Bayer Aspirin 20-36 ct

Transaction #2
Caldesene baby powder $4.99
Coupons used
-$1 off Caldesene baby powder printable
-$1 +UP from transaction #1
Out of pocket = $2.99 + tax
+UP generated
$4 +UP Caldesene baby powder
Transaction #3
(2) GE soft white light bulbs, 2 pk - $2 each = $4
Coupons used
-$4 +UP from transaction #2
Out of pocket = Zero + tax
Filed receipt from transaction #3 online at RiteAid.com to get a $3 Single Check Rebate from the two packs of light bulbs. And that offsets the $2.99 out of pocket from transaction #2!

High Value Old Orchard Naturals Coupon on Facebook!
Head on over to the Hy-Vee, Inc Facebook page and "like" them. Then you can print a $2 off Old Orchard Naturals Juice Drink coupon! Don't forget to hit your "back" button to print two!
This is a manufacturer's coupon and should be accepted anywhere. On the coupon it does say "Redeem at Hy-Vee" but don't let that throw you off!
Maxing Out Office Max!
Today I ran into an Office Max store and grabbed their sales flyer. Deeply discounted merchandise on the front of any sales flyer is considered a "loss leader" meaning these items are used to "lead" you in to the store and they are willing to take a "loss" on the items just to get you in the door!
Their hope is while you're in the store you'll buy something else in addition to the loss leaders to make up for the lost profit. I don't play like that. I just go in, purchase the loss leaders and quickly get out! So here's what I got with regular prices in parenthesis:
Out of pocket = $1.52 + tax
Merchandise value = $11.12
That's an 86% savings!

FREE Chick-fil-A Breakfast!
Chick-fil-A is giving away FREE breakfast September 6-10 (next Tuesday-Saturday). You're probably thinking "free food = a madhouse at Chick-fil-A and NO THANK YOU!"
The last time they ran this promotion we participated and it went VERY SMOOTHLY! Here's why:
- The event is spread out over 5 days, instead of one crazy day
- Its your choice which location you want to go to
- You have to "reserve" your time slot of when you are coming for breakfast, so not everyone ends up there at the same time (for example: 8:30am - 9:30am)
- During your "reservation", you indicate the breakfast item you want, so the restaurant knows how to plan and properly stock so they don't run out

Saving 99.97% at CVS!
I went back to CVS today because I wanted to get the good price on Kleenex and to get some cheap shampoo! Because my ECBs were in increments of $2, my strategy was to try to have my total after coupons (but before using ECBs) to be an even amount, like $4, $6, etc.
Without the oral rinse, my total would've been $3.54 before using ECBs ($4.40 for Kleenex + $1.64 for shampoo - $.50 Kleenex coupon and - $2/2 shampoo coupon). To get my total (before using ECBs) over the $4, I elected to buy the oral rinse. I only needed $.46 more, but because the net of the oral rinse would end up being $.99 AND it generated a $2 ECB, I chose that to get my total over $4.
Bought:
(5) boxes of Kleenex at $.88 each = $4.40
(2) VO5 Shampoos at $.82 each = $1.64
Crest ProHealth Oral Rinse 250 mL = $2.99
Subtotal = $9.03
Coupons used:
-.50/3 Kleenex (3) boxes 50 ct + or bundle pk, SS 7/17
-$2/2 Shampoo, Conditioner, or Stylant, prints at CVS Coupon Center
-$2 ECB from Bengay Vanishing Scent Gel (see July 27 entry)
-$2 ECB from U by Kotex liners (see July 27 entry)
-$2 ECB from Crest ProHealth Oral Rinse (see July 27 entry)
Total = $.53 + tax
ECBs generated:
$2 ECB from the Crest ProHealth Oral Rinse
Total cost of each item after coupons and corresponding ECBs:
(5) boxes of Kleenex = $.78 each
(2) VO5 Shampoos = $.36 profit
Crest ProHealth Oral Rinse 250 mL = $.99
Out of pocket = $.53 + tax
Retail value = $15.92
